The first episode seemed 50-50 to me
Synopsis
After months of isolation, Isherwood "Ish" Williams learns that much of the world has been stricken by a mysterious disease. Yet, despite his instincts to remain isolated, Ish leads the creation of a new civilization. Based on the novel Earth Abides by George R. Stewart. You’d think the last 20 minutes would redeem itself, but no
The premise seemed interesting enough to overlook all the plot holes, and I gave the show the benefit of the doubt. I guess the lights in Vegas would definitely stay on, since Vegas is powered by the Hoover Dam. Things took a major turn for the worse when the second episode came out. The first 30 minutes of this 50-minute ordeal were a lot of nothing. It’s like watching a love story/soap opera, cliché after cliché…
Which the feral cats solve
The most interesting scene is a brief rat infestation. Does this make sense to anyone? And even if it does, why is it even a relevant topic? And why has this guy been living alone for a year and hasn’t installed a solar power plant? Or, more importantly, why hasn’t he found a house that’s already set up?
And because of that, nothing happens
Are there really better homes than his old family home, like a house by a river, a lake, the ocean – all major food sources? Instead, he decides to stay in a random suburban cul-de-sac… We can see that he’s lonely, but at the same time he literally does nothing to explore his surroundings. He doesn’t have a radio, he doesn’t leave signs, he doesn’t explore. Basically, he’s the most boring hero..
